Any sushis play MtG or other trading card games? What formats? Online or in paper?

 No.1695

I play and collect Magic cards. I used to play a lot more than I do now (modern, legacy, drafting) but I haven't gotten back to going to LGSs since COVID, even though I'm pretty sure most places are back to doing events now.

I'm currently enjoying just collecting old/cool cards when I can, and playing EDH with friends. I've been playing a lot through Tabletop Sim, it works surprisingly well and it's really fun. If there are enough willing people I was thinking it might be fun to play with MTG-Sushis.

 No.1696

Used to play Magic but nobody around me plays anymore and the new sets don't entice me, played Krosmaga too, such a shame they didn't give the game more love. Now i play Legends of Runeterra almost daily.

It used to be a huge part of my life, but now my old friends are all gone and the LGS only really plays Commander. Ive been thinking about making a cube and filling it with cards Im nostalgic for.

I tried to get into Yu-Gi-Oh when Master Duel came out, but my locals closed soon after I got interested into the paper game
Now I just play online

Android: Netrunner is hands down the best trading card game I've ever played. The asymmetry really enhances the runner vs corp theme. It's not actually a trading card game because it just released full sets with everything. And now that WotC has dropped it and a community effort has picked it up to make new cards, there's an even smaller profit incentive to ruin it.

I got into Yugioh right when it came out. Noticed them next to the Pokemon cards and bought some plus I recognized the Konami logo from games that I loved. Fell in love with this franchise and played competitively all the way until 2018. I still have a bit of my collection but I have had to sell out of it over the years since.

Happy to see another Netrunner player here, I love that game! It's not just the best card game, I think it's one of the best board games I've ever played too. I even got into the tournament scene despite never being interested in that for other games and I made some great memories doing it, my local community is fantastic. My interest has waned a little thanks to the years of online play but now that meatspace events are starting to ramp up I'm hoping to get back into it.
I love how tightly the theme is woven into the gameplay, with even little details like the hand/deck/bin having specific names depending on which side you're playing. Feels great to play too with all the mind games, economy management and risk calculations you need to do to try and win. I used to be an avid MtG player but I can never see myself returning to it. Especially after what WotC did, they're never getting another penny from me.

>but now my old friends are all gone and the LGS only really plays Commander
Story of my life sushi roll ;-; My one friend I used to play with and I drifted apart and I would go to matches at local cards shops but EVERYONE only plays Commander. As in, people seem weirded out if you casually play standard.

Foundations looks like a great set in a lot of ways but the fact that UB crossover stuff will be fully 50% of product going forwards and legal in all formats really killed my love for the game at the moment. I don't think I'll sell my cards or anything but it's really depressing watching Magic turn itself into genuinely soulless fortnite-style crossover slop. I get that there are fans of these things and I'm not against the idea of Magic as a rules framework for generic TCG gameplay, it's just sad to see the game I made so many friends through and loved change so much.

but i like doctor who… fallout was good…

it's normie nerd slop like assassin's creed, marvel, and lotr that pisses me off. if it feels a few degrees removed from magic, thematic but not too out there, i think it works.

what i hate most about the game is that the playerbase is full of disgusting gibbering spergs, but i'll spare you the details.

i can get behind this. maybe if they were normally priced commander-only secret lair drops?

also, can i have some advice on my miku deck? https://moxfield.com/decks/mWEOlav1REKFcC0O7RxsPQ

There's a guy I like who also makes some nice youtube videos about WIXOSS.
He recently had a lot of trouble with PSA (the company everyone uses to get nice cards graded) and swore off them, and then tried out two other companies (TAG and BGS) with less than stellar experiences.
(Here's the video if you're curious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=875OiwR1vc8)

Has sushi ever gotten a card graded? Or just framed/displayed them in general?

I have been getting into card collecting a bit lately. It satisfies an itch I had forgotten about a long time ago. I sent some off to get graded, but I haven't gotten them back just yet. There is something pretty satisfying about holding a valuable card in your own hands, like a nerdy gemstone.

you dumb cunt. magic the gathering is in the direct lineage of lotr. it's literally a card game inspired by a tabletop game inspired by lord of the fucking rings you dumb cunt lmao

meanwhile doctor who has literally nothing in common with the franchise.

does anyone have any experience with grand archive? it seems cool, but the only local scene where i'm at is jojo's hobbyhouse (more like jewjew's am i right haha), and apparently they only get around three or four people there.

the game seems pretty neat, if a little rough around the edges; it's obvious it's a passion project. i can't really get behind the self aware quirk chungus "haha look how heacking weabuuu we are" marketing, but the art and characters are nice.

anybody have any experience/thoughts? anyone in the area looking to play?

I got into magic recently via playing a lot of jumpstart and house rule limited formats. Before, I was intimidated by the sheer scale of the game, and the issues I saw from outside where it looked like most games were about trying to win turn 1 with a deck worth a couple grand, but it turns out you can just do pretty much whatever you like in it still.

I greatly enjoy sealed formats, it makes opening packs a lot more fun when you know that you can at least make a creaky deck out of the stuff in there and see if anything good happens. Jumpstart is a bit more fun since the semi-constructed nature of it means that there's at least two win conditions and some actual thought put into the ramp in the deck. The last one I've been trying is set-limited omnidraft woth buddies. It's fun to try and make a deck that can pull off a single concepy well in there and it feels somewhat balanced towards the kind of game that I like playing, with a lot of turns and a complex developing tableu rather than 10 card combos that pop off every game like a pinball machine. That there is coherent theming in matches is also nice, feels like when I played a good bit of netrunner.

there's new standard theme decks coming out, you should give those a shot. if you can wrap your head around sealed, standard shouldn't be a problem. it's also got a lot of self-expression, which seems to be what you're looking for.

>something something 10 card combos

I think you also just like… don't really get how modern formats work. Try standard or EDH. You might like them. Modern or Legacy if you're Mr. Moneybags. (You're not, because you're filipino, but you never know.)

Kinda sad Wixoss never took off outside of Japan, mechanically it was a lot more interesting than most of the other anime or anime-style card games. Basic idea is somewhat similar to Vanguard, but it's got spells and casting/summoning costs, along with interrupts that you can use on your opponent's turn.

 No.2742

>>2732
if you enjoy sealed/limited formats you should look into Cube! It's very fun.
I will also second what >>2733 said in that turn 1 wins are rare especially in formats without fast mana. I used to play a lot of Modern and Legacy and even in Legacy I don't think I ever got killed turn 1 (I played a deck with force of wills tho)
There's also EDH which is a ton of casual fun with a good playgroup, it really captures the TCG essence of being able to make your preferred theme/strategy work and lets you put a more personal spin on your deck than competitive constructed

I'm intrigued. Vanguard always seemed overly complicated to the point of parody, but the art and design is nice. Do you have a champion in Wixoss like in GA, Vanguard, and EDH, or is it pure 60-card like Pokémon?

Haven't played GA or EDH.
Wixoss does have your champion "LRIG" yeah it's just "GIRL" spelled backwards, and you power her up every turn until she reaches max level. Although unlike Vanguard you keep all your champions in a separate hand instead of your deck so you don't have to randomly draw them; you can always level up as long as you can pay the cost. Your champion also limits the number and level of summon monsters you can play.
