>Disgaea is great, but you have to like it's sense of humor.
so far i like it, it doesn't make me laugh out loud but it's pretty funny, especially when the characters argue with each other.
>Just know that 5 is loaded with QoL improvements over the earlier games and it can be rough trying to play the others. Even the remasters didn't add a whole lot of what 5 has.
thankfully, i'm used to downgrades in qol because of series like fire emblem and megaten, unless in disgaea it's especially horrible or something
>6 looks like shit though. I can't stand that 3D CGI crap compared to the sprites the rest of the series uses.
bullet dodged i guess

really glad i bought this game, it's great value considering the fact that i'm probably gonna put hundreds of hours into it. it's really suited for a handheld too

More aesthetically the same rather than a flight game, but Project Landsword hits a lot of the Ace Combat notes despite being a top down shooter. You pilot a tachiyomi-esque mech in sandboxy missions with lots of options on how to approach them. There's a slick mission select and hangar UI, and even radio chatter.

It does a good job with the feeling of the sense of scale and of the missions being a bit of a tactics puzzle you have to figure out.
It's a mech game rather than a plane game, and there's only an itch demo at the moment, but it really does scratch that itch for me.

Hey sushis, did you guys know about "Fantasy Consoles"?
I recently attempted to locate a browser version of the "Super Hexagon" videogame because I was too impatient to download and install Steam, and I discovered that a version of Super Hexagon is playable in the browser on a "Fantasy Console" called the "TIC-80".
https://tic80.com/play?cart=311
This has been quite an interesting find for me. I have long known that it's possible to use software to emulate any hardware or hardware system (presumably provided one has enough horsepower to emulate the target system) and I knew about the Java Virtual Machine and how Java is about programming for a computer that technically doesn't exist, but still, I never imagined that not only would there be entire consoles that don't physically exist, but that they would also have these genuinely devoted communities making all of these free games for them. It's amazing and really interesting.
Apparently Celeste actually started as a game for the "PICO-8" Fantasy Console before the devs moved it to other platforms.

It's insane to me, with all of the time I've spent lurking on imageboards, particularly where videogame discussion was occurring, that I've never heard of these "Fantasy Consoles" before.
What do you think Sushis? Have you known about these for years and are just rolling your eyes right now? Do you have a favourite Fantasy Console game? Or is this new to you too?

I wanted to play VRChat too, but some kid called me ugly, and I decided not to return to VRChat until I'm good enough with Blender to make my own pretty model, or I get a job and can hire someone to make one for me (neither of which has yet to happen). Thanks sushi!

What avatar were you using when this kid called you ugly? I think you could get something nice for very cheap, or even for free if you don't mind spending 2 hours hopping through worlds

Oh, and another question, are on PCVR or on a standalone headset?
With the quest and such, you might find it difficult to get into raves (which are really resource intensive)

I wish you well either way sushi

How do you deal with your /arcade/ backlog?

Do you keep some time of the day/week/year to find and play things you've always wanted to, or do you act on istinct? I have a shit ton of games waiting in my room (or to be downloaded) but can't find a viable method to just jump in and finish some.

My backlog is pretty small because I just play the games I want to play. I guess that's a weird way to put it but I just play them. I don't know. I will say, one game on my backlog is the Rhapsody sequel (pic rel) because I have a habit of skipping all dialogue in a video game so I have no clue what I'm supposed to do at this point of the game. (My character, i forgot her name, has to look for something. That's all I know is going on in the plot. I don't know what I'm looking for or what I'm doing or anything.)
At one point I thought about starting the game over and actually reading the dialogue so I know what's going on but on the other hand I don't feel like it.

The art is pretty, I like the music, and the fights are fun because the main character can summon candy to attack enemies. I like games where I can strategize fights (although Rhapsody is pretty simplistic in that nature… and the second game is even more simple than the first).
On the other hand, I also like playing VN/puzzle hybrid games and I will read the dialogue in VNs so it's not like I skip the dialogue in all games, just in most of them. Honestly, I just like playing them for the fighting and inventory management aspects.

This could have been its own thread, sushi.

And yeah, I'd say Minecraft is still quite popular. I don't think it has the grip that it used to, but nonetheless, I think it's still doing quite well.
I just checked Twitch's Minecraft category, and there's 16,000 viewers in total watching a Minecraft stream on Twitch right now, and I don't know how those numbers vary across the day. Those are pretty high numbers, especially for a game as old as Minecraft. I've seen a lot of newly released games become Twitch's Flavour of the Month and then age and lose viewership. Minecraft's success is pretty high and pretty consistent in my opinion, but I am somewhat anxious about my lack of knowledge regarding how well Twitch-viewership really represents the opinions of the gaming masses.

Hello sushies!

I didnt know if I should post this here or >>>/silicon/257 so, I thought I should make this a sushichan project so we can all enjoy it.
I've been working on a game that im building in Ruby on Rails. It is a mix between a TCG and classic JRPG party building and turn based combat. I have most of the rules written but I would like to get some input on what I can put in the game and what you would like to play. I havent worked on the core controller (engine) yet but I have the basic turn lay out and deck construction.
Im working on the card database right now and will move on to the static pages and deck builder next.
I am currently looking at adding in a map for a Clan style ranking system but I think it might be a bit overdone buy now. Im also on a background/story I was using FF for all the play testing but never go around for any overarching plot so anything would be good there.

Let me know what you think and Ill keep updating.

Good to see you. im at work now and didnt get here before the thread died. Im going to be working on art/music and anything but the code after the alpha is up and running then ill set up a donation page and maybe a pateron or go fund me for the art. right now im spinding downtime looking through pivix for things that appeal to the feel of what I want the game to be for samples and use in some of the final static pages.
I know a lot of what my limitations are and I can get the bulk of it done by myself with enough time and effort. I knew a few digital artist that can help i worked with a while ago and i would like to take some of the work from the drawrolls if they are willing to donate but, as before Ill be working on that after the alpha is built and there is a game to play.

Gentlemen, I have returned.
Age brings wisdom but kills motivation. So ill simply start with some updates:
>Engine:
Going ok, I have the main loop and initialization methods currently work but he victory condition check is not working properly and Im not quite sure why. Once this section is done I will be moving it to the rails application that currently has a DB and framework with enough to speed up the testing and creation of objects by quite a lot.

>Format:

Not much of the rules have changed, Ive settled on 2 players with 3 characters each. Both players take their turn at once and the action stack is decided by the character speed value at the start of the round. Rails new Cable method will make the player connect seamless, so this shouldnt be a problem once the application is in testing.

>Story:

A (macguffin)is discovered by an imperial empire that has magnetic and bio-energetic properties. Over a 20 year span the macguffin becomes a source of immense power as its properties are expounded upon, tested and refined through several experiments. Some benign, some malicious. Massive improvements in power generation, transport and
other more mysterious advancements were made causing, in essence, a second industrial revolution. Like all revolutions, things change rapidly.
The once pastoral live enjoyed by a majority of the people were now swiftly being swept away and replaced with the new means of production and a new way of living. Under the stress of change and the pull to various utopian ideals of how to use this new power, the empire shattered in to 3 major factions now wrestling for control over the best uses of the limited material.

Thread for TTRPG discussion and organization.

# What is a TTRPG?
TTRPG, sometimes TRPG, stands for TableTop Role-Playing Game. It includes big names, like D&D, and much less heard of ones, like Song of Swords. The rule systems run from extremely thorough, with rules for things like how many Thai chilli peppers you can eat before getting ill, to so broad as to be nearly nonexistent, with only basic guidelines on how to play. In almost all systems, the key component that sets it apart from video game RPGs is the presence of the Dungeon Master, Game Master, Referee, etc. They help to adjudicate edge cases not covered by rules and create exceptions to the rules in favour of fun, meaning a TRPG has much more freedom of action than a normal RPG.

# Where do I play?
Generally, TTRPGs, especially niche ones without large player bases, are played in-person, but there are also sites and apps that allow you to play over the internet and find groups. The biggest one right now is probably roll20; signing up is free, and as a player, you never need to pay for anything. Other applications include FoundryVTT (paid for by a GM), Maptools (free), AstralVTT (free), and Fantasy Grounds (expensive, but very nice). Some groups even play on Tabletop Simulator, which has the added bonus of letting you play poker or Life before a session starts or if someone flakes.

There's also the potential to show up at a gaming store; if you live in the US, Canada, or Europe, there's plenty of those around too. Gaming stores are in-person, obviously, but they also often boast long-time, highly experienced and confident game masters who are knowledgable at how to best cater to newbies trying to enter the hobby. There are many websites online to help you find game stores near you.

# Where do you get the rulebooks?
You can buy them from places like drivethrurpg, or you can pirate them from https://thetrove.net/. As a new player, you often don't need very many books; both Shadowrun and Pathfinder have relatively complete wikis online with all the setting-agnostic information you need, and Pathfinder even has a setting wiki so there's no reason to buy the books for their content.
