Resurrecting this thread out of the .tokyo archives. Any sushi rolls here own a VR headset? Any rolls just curious about them? What games/experiences are you trying these days? Any small projects that you would recommend trying?

The last thread was made just as the two main PC headsets (Oculus Rift and Vive) were coming out in 2016. In the two years since, we've seen slow but constant growth in both headset sales and the number of available games. In addition, the lineup of Windows Mixed Reality headsets is making room-scale VR with hand tracking more affordable than ever. Beat Saber is helping to push VR to arcades across the country and I really hope this is the time when VR makes it to the mainstream.

I have a rift and right now I've been playing a bunch of Vox Machinae and Pavlov. I got this thing back in January and I really enjoy all the games I got for this thing, even emulating some older gamecube games using it feels refreshing. As for my recommendations, Vox and Pavlov are both great if a little arcadey, Onward is an excelent milsim, Beatsaber with mods is a treat and will help you get your vr legs.

Try Resonite. It is better than VRChat in nearly every way.

i've been trying to enjoy the blade and sorcery full release but i think i've gone too schizo to use my headset anymore. cameras constantly scanning my house/room, controllers tracking my movement and gait data. just feels very invasive to my aging schizo brain.

Not in the one way that matters to me (VRC has significantly more anime than furry/western avatars).

Haven't played GA or EDH.
Wixoss does have your champion "LRIG" yeah it's just "GIRL" spelled backwards, and you power her up every turn until she reaches max level. Although unlike Vanguard you keep all your champions in a separate hand instead of your deck so you don't have to randomly draw them; you can always level up as long as you can pay the cost. Your champion also limits the number and level of summon monsters you can play.

How do you deal with your /arcade/ backlog?

Do you keep some time of the day/week/year to find and play things you've always wanted to, or do you act on istinct? I have a shit ton of games waiting in my room (or to be downloaded) but can't find a viable method to just jump in and finish some.

The art is pretty, I like the music, and the fights are fun because the main character can summon candy to attack enemies. I like games where I can strategize fights (although Rhapsody is pretty simplistic in that nature… and the second game is even more simple than the first).
On the other hand, I also like playing VN/puzzle hybrid games and I will read the dialogue in VNs so it's not like I skip the dialogue in all games, just in most of them. Honestly, I just like playing them for the fighting and inventory management aspects.

no gamer has ever gone to the grave with a finished backlog. As long as you have the desire to play games it will never truly be empty.

You should not view the backlog as a burden, but as a library that you can pick and choose at your leisure. I agree with >>129 in the sense that sometimes you just have to wing it and play a game first to determine whether or not you would like it.

anybody know if this game is any good?

i know its free on steam and quite popular in some places but i dont wanna bother installing it and giving it hours of my life if its gonna turn out to be another one of those "westoid who thinks he is smarter than every visual novel ever made creates his own le spooky quirky game" like doki doki

 No.2806

>>2805
I played for 30~ minutes and was not that into it. Not sure if it qualifies as what you described (is Belarus east enough to absolve the dev of the westoid accusation?), but I found the narrator's monologues to be of a deliberately shallow sort of sentimentality; one that is overlong yet retreats from complexity by always falling back to a specific, small handful of words. While it seemed obvious to me this was being used as a means of foreshadowing to confront the character's beliefs, I found that it exhausted my patience too much to make me want to see that through.

 No.2807

>>2805
I played it and enjoyed it, I wished it went on for a little longer. There's one moment that I would say is DDLC-like (never having played it) but I don't think it would detract from it.

 No.2809

really good especially considering it's the author's debut in writing

yet narrative inconsistencies and some general storytelling sins are present, you'll spend some time thinking "i wish it had gone like this, it'd be even better"

pretty good characters, art and vibes tho

 No.2840

I would say it's more akin to the bag milk games than ddlc.
I personally really liked it. It had some issues here and there but overall liked the idea and message that tried to sent

Have you ever got into a game because of its soundtrack? Maybe you found some of its music on some thread or on YouTube or someone linked it to you and you thought "woah this sounds amazing I should try this game"

For me it was EoSD and Jet Set Radio. Needless to say Touhou kicked my ass for a few years but ultimately getting into it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. How about you?

 No.2812

Unsurprisingly, yeah music got me into Touhou. I still haven't played every game, but I like all the ones I've played (except TH06, I never like that game). I also found Flipwitch through a random YouTube recommendation on the OST, and I liked it so much I played the game. I'm not big on most porn games, but Flipwitch is fun and has a lot of great art and music. It also has a really solid Archipelago mod if you like randomizers.

The time of my life when I was super into Hotline Miami 2's OST was magical. The game itself was okay.

I feel like it isn't that uncommon for Persona fans to first be introduced to the game by it's music. I heard a couple of songs on auto play and fell in love with the OST

I definitely tried Jet Set Radio because of its music (I still have it on Steam).
I recall trying Ridge Racer: Type 4 because of its soundtrack, which was an unusual decision for me, because I'm not typically a fan of racing games.
I recall feeling motivated to play the dot Hack games because I liked the soundtrack for the boss fight with a being known as "Skeith".

So yeah, this has happened a few times.

Even if Nintendo got almost everything wrong with this console starting from horrible loading times to censoring content, I still find it extremely comfy - the menu music, the forgotten games, the whole experience still has something other consoles do not have.

What are you playing right now? I'm going through Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. I was mad when they showed that it wasn't gonna be a true SMT x FE back in 2015, but a colourful, cool and comfy adventure in modern Tokyo with an idol show business setting is good too.

As a playstation owner i give my honor to the wii menu and opening screen. There is something so unique about the square grid like composition that gives it that console feel unlike any other and i have played a handful myself. I would go as far as even saying i dont think any upcoming consoles can match.

So I'm missing half of my Wii U because my brother accidentally took it with him when he moved away, but I would play it if I still could. The thing I miss the most about it is it's probably one of the last gimmick consoles there will probably ever be (maybe I'm being pessimistic).

oh, oh, oh my dear Wii U!
What would've my childhood looked like without you. With games such as Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Woolly World, Super Mario 3D World, The Stonecutter, and Meme Run I loved this console with all my heart. The CafeOS menu is still remarkable today, being used as an example for the frutiger aero themes of the early 2010s. Then there is the pro controller, arguably the best controller nintendo has ever made. I would say that the Wii U carries the Switch's library with it mostly being remasters/ports. Wii U I love UUUUU!
