the community was very welcoming and dungeons and raids were fun to do. quests are easily done solo. sometimes the story was good, mostly it was boting. ive got tired of questing because there is literally only two variations - fight a group of enemies or talk to one or more people.

or you could just play the free trial. free trial is like the first 3 expansions and the only thing you cant do is use the market board or trade.

wow thanks so much! i tried the demo briefly but lost heart when i looked at the price. i'll definitely get into the free trial at least, i love any kind of character creation game. are you on oceania servers?

Oceania has the perk of being the "neutral zone" that every region can pay a visit to and play with one another, and the drawback of not having that many players actually living on it.

If you want a more populated server you may have to choose between NA, UK and JP and use Oceania servers to visit and play with people from other regions if you have any.

There are pros and cons but I prefer trying to land myself in more populated zones with more "skilled" players so that I never have to wait too long for dungeons or raids.

Ok, I'm about ~24 hours in. I killed my first primal.

Overall the game is pretty fun so far, even if it's not "engagin" per se. A whole bunch of fetch quests being part of the early MSQ kind of sucks, combat is a bit shit especially at lower levels, job scenario quests are cool. Now that I'm through the slop, the story is shaping up to be interesting enough.

I like the character designs, though not as much as VI or XVI, but the races are cool. I chose to be a Lalafell. I'm sad that the only options to be a Hrothgar, now that Shadowbringers is free, are either hulking chungus or generic female.

Combat could use more depth; some fights were okay though, just very mindless overall. I've heard that there's a big update in the works which I'm excited for; coming from Xenoblade, I'd like to see more thought put into it other than "click the buttons in sequence".

I definitely could've gotten a lot further if I didn't swap classes twice; first from lancer to archer, then back again when I was told that you can meet Estinien early in the lancer questline.

I ended up picking an Oceania server, which I regret; the connection sucks anyway, and there is fucking nobody to play with. Can I transfer my character to a new server, or am I stuck?

I liked making a cute character and crafting outfits and generally hanging out. Red Mage was fun to play.

When you get more buttons and off-gcd skills most jobs feel more engaging, but I don't think they ever get "deep". The fact that you can now play up through Shadowbringers for free and at your own leisure is crazy. That's hundreds of hours of stuff, I hope you stick with it and have fun.
