Just found these adorable boots for $10 at a local thrift shop. I have wide feet, so it's hard to find nice boots that fit me. Anyone else do thrifting? I find it a a great way to get great outfits without breaking the bank.

 No.1687

I love thrifting!! I get all my DvDs and CDs from thrift stores. Clothes sometimes too, it's hard to find cool clothes in my thrift stores though :(

 No.1688

Sometimes I thrift for old technology and I repair it but not so much for clothes. I did thrift for a shoulderbag that I still use, excellent quality and resistance despite being very used by the time I got it. Love the thing and it fits my religious texts perfectly in width and length.

 No.1689

I've been meaning to check out thrift stores. I'm in a college town, so there should be some good stuff especially when the end of the semester hits and tons of kids graduate. But I always keep putting it off, thinking I can just do it some day later.

 No.1691

Good find.
I used to go thrifting more but I accumulated too many clothes.

I do have a blog. Personal blogs + rss > "social" media

 No.1685

I've been thinking of starting my own blog for some time. A place to share my thoughts, musings, reviews, etc.
I feel like it's partially an influence of my time on Lainchan and my time watching Luke Smith's videos that I want to do something more inline with how the internet used to be. But yeah, having my own website where I post my thoughts feels like a nice idea.
"The internet was at its best when it was a place for people who read books" is the sentiment I've internalised from those two aforementioned sources. For me to be more of a reader, and to share my musings on my website, would be cool! :D

ITT we learn about exactly how stuff looks and capture the contours of interesting objects.

To start us off,
I have been doodling flowers for years in order to send unsolicited romantic inquiries on Valentine's day. I think flowers are very elegant and very challenging to capture. They have a lot of nuance to their shape, a good deal of variation from specimen to specimen, and nailing both perspective and lighting is key to making them "pop". They are a good challenge for the amateur sushisketchers. Here's some stuff I found about the main types of roses.
Hint: high centered hybrid tea roses are the most aesthetic and definitely the best for sending to women but most flowers have fans somewhere and a niche where they look appropriate.

Some of the better roses I have sketched. I’m usually just doing these in 30 minutes while im doing reports and stuff so i just use pen instead of artists pencils. I have a set lying around at home but I cant find them right now : (
But ink on paper is a neat medium in its own right.

Do you like writing, sushi?
This is a space for sharing your writing. It doesn't need to be anything big, it just needs to be made by you!

Here's something I wrote during class:

"I will always live in the margins of your books, in forgotten notes and scribbles, in a box left on the side of the road, or stored in the attic of your old house maybe; even if you've forgotten about me, I strive to be there for when you need me, for the day you dust off my box and pull me out."

But anyways, here's a thread for album artwork you really like.

These were used for the inner sleeve artwork for Talk Talk's 1986 album "The Colour of Spring, of which James Marsh did the artwork for.

I was going through the web searching any novels/movies that have an Older Woman/Younger Man relationships, yet most them I found tend to be smutty or at least ecchi-like (I don't know what word I could describe it with). While I know the obvious answer will be that sex sells, it doesn't satisfy my question here. So please, tell me why I see them constantly on recommendations for novels and movies (ESPECIALLY with novels)????

Hello, sushi! Lately I've been craving some really cute moe SOL manga. Can I get some recommendations? (bonus points for 4koma, shoujo-ai, yuri)

I wish there was something similar to Shoujo Shumatsu. Girls travelling the wasteland without much point to it just hits well for me.

I can see that no one else has recommended it yet so let me start by warmly recommending Ayakashiko!
It's a cute story about a serious girl who has youkai friends of many different kinds. Together they create all kinds of antics but also have comfy times together at home. There aren't any prevalent male characters but there isn't any real yuri either.
This manga will soothe you when you need it. -w-

I'll recommend the manga Hakumei and Mikochi: Tiny Little Life in the Woods, which also has a short anime adaption.

It follows the daily life of two inchling women who share a house carved into a tree trunk. They eat, drink, work, make friends, and live amongst talking animals and insects. Mostly eat and drink though. Seriously, a good numbers of pages are focused on food, either the potatoes cooking, eating, and getting shitfaced. Even the anime ED is has two characters singing about the types of food and alcohol they want to for a picnic. It's a pretty comfy seinen series that despite the fantasy elements feels very down to earth.

The anime isn't the most "animated" but I like the pacing and music. It introduced me to the series so I have a soft spot for it.

>if you are religious, then you believe in a metaphysics at all, as in, something more than our base reality
Even self-identified atheists do believe in non-observable phenomena that transcend our everday existence e.g. the market, the invisible hand, cooperate personalities, not to mention stuff from theoretical physics that cannot be empirically proven. I prefer to see the secular worldview as akin to a religion itself. It is traditional and has its own particular quasi-theological structure and value system. It just pretends its not one. It hides itself. Other rival systems of belief and morality are boxed in under the name "religions" and some pejorative labels are applied to them, this is designed to cement the secular worldview as the only one allowed to be socially dominant. It would be a mistake to flip this around and simply say "well religions are good and have these positive features" because its buying into a false distinction. The need to confront a secular modernity might bring religious people together, but I think struggling against a common problem isn't really the best way to build a positive solidarity because each religious community relates to the secular worldview in different ways. If you're a Protestant Christian or a Shintoist, it really isn't much of an issue to co-exist with it. If you're a Muslim, a Confucian or an Orthodox Jew you find yourself ostracized. Buddhists seem to be let off the hook, despite their teachings contradicting some secular dogmas (faith in the individual, that the world exists and is permanant etc). I'm guessing this is a mix of orientalist fetishism, lack of conflict between Buddhist communities and the West, and Buddhists being too passive.
