Recently I've noticed I have a lot of trouble concentrating and completing tasks that require long term gratification. I'm not sure when this started, but I desperately want to retrain my attention span, how can I do this?

 No.24218

try having a more strict schedule. i find that if i sometimes dont force myself off youtube i just keep rotting, and your attention span is gonna just plummet with what they're feeding you. it's intentional. for example, i told myself… one mo video, okay, then i do work. if i have a lot to do in a day i sometimes use alarms but its a little annoying and anxiety inducin tbh

separating entertainment from work also works i think there's the zen browser for that.

or try staring at a wall lol

Stop consuming shortform entertainment. Videos, gacha/web games, news articles, memes, etc., anything that you engage in for a few minutes before moving on to a new topic.
Cut your social media engagement to meaningful conversations with a small group of people that you care about.
Stop looking at your phone when you go 5 seconds without stimulation.

Smartphones and the internet are deliberately designed to give you a constant stream of stimulation. This is reducing your attention span. I'm not saying it's easy but cutting down on the stimulation will probably help you heal.

Well, first off, how did you first try tackle the project, OP? I had the problem that I was putting too much on my plate at once. (and also that the project i was working on ultimately didn't interest me) I decided to separate the project in smaller sections. like chapters in a book. I finished a chapter, I'd leave it for the day and come back to it.

having a strict schedule never worked for me. i could always "one more video" myself

i totally agree about separating entertainment from work though. i have a separate firefox profile for this

Hi, OP here.

Strict schedules don't work well for me, instead I've started making to do lists for each day, and have seen some success.

Also have deleted social media off of my phone along with my browser and have restricted my video game playtime. I've been better with productivity, but still working on learning to be bored.
