>>9174>long-running mediamix type of thingIt's all microtransactions with a plan to sunset after 2-5 years when the cash stops flowing in. You can take the path of the gacha and gamble on characters, or you can take the path of the vtuber and donate to get them to reply to your messages or whatever. In either case, the game will shut down or the vtuber will "graduate" and they hope you'll move onto the next generation and go on a new merchandise spending spree for your new waifu(s).
Personally, I think we're still in vtuber era as the latest "big thing". Ai-chan was the "big one" closely followed by the original Hololives. idk what will be next. Maybe some kind of VR Anime Girlfriend ASMR Hugbox machine? brb filing a patent.

There needs to be a rehab for this addiction.

Oh yeah there's the nasuverse too but I'm not fond of the idea of pokemon battles with historic figures in period-accurate clothing so I never committed.
>>9177It's like everyone started thinking obsessively about market shares and everything has become overcompartmentalized. The gravy train is gonna stop eventually and when that happens a lot of this stuff is gonna fizzle up real fast.
Which makes me ask a different question: what things (of any size) have a kernel of loyalty that's sustainable enough to survive the entire media space having an 80% contraction in revenue?
And don't answer touhou.
No.9192
>>9190I expect it to be more of a slow contraction, more of an effect on releasing new gacha than killing off the existing popular ones. The profit margins on gacha are huge, if they cut advertising I bet they could last a long time.
Even in some sort of catastrophic collapse where 99.9% of the revenue goes away I expect it'd go back to small production value gachas like the original versions of Kancolle or Oretower

>>9192Speaking of, looks like they finally shut down OreTower earlier this year. RIP construction girls.
Guess Kancolle is still going strong though.
