I have often thought I could use more discipline in my life, perhaps you have too. With the goal of improving discipline, I want to practice with you.

Pick something you cannot now do, and do it. Make a commitment by posting here, set a deadline, and report back after you are done, success or failure. It can be anything at all. Playing a challenging piano piece, getting outside every day, waking up in the morning, running a mile, forgoing your preferred distractions, anything.

Myself, I have trouble sitting still when I meditate. So I commit to sitting completely still for one hour, with a deadline of Wednesday evening. If I so much as move a finger I will reset the clock.

There's two kinds of discipline I am aware of - the discipline to endure a difficult situation to its end (as in sitting still for one hour) and the equally valuable daily discipline of keeping up a good habit whether you desire to do so or not. So keep in mind which kind of discipline you want to practice and go for it. Be bold and become a stronger person!

Should probably make an effort to sort my room out (and keep the chaos at bay more than a week for once after having done so), get rid of more stuff.
Bought a carpet years ago and I still haven't been able to put it out because I have a bunch of boxes full of miscellaneous thingies and other stuff in the way. No room to use my reading chair either, cause I have to keep the foot rest on top of the chair with the lack of space.

Should also start lifting weights again, have my own cause I invested in a set before prices shot sky high for real iron. Which is also dependent on the room chaos being cleared away, can't get my lift on because with all the stuff in the way. Can't do my exercises properly without a large enough free spot.

I didn't mean to abandon the thread. It just took a bit of a different direction than I had originally intended and I didn't want to rain on everyone's parade and say you're all doing it wrong or something. I had meant to prioritize completing difficult tasks that one doubts they can do or even KNOW they cannot presently do, the goal being not to achieve those tasks so much as strengthen the mind through facing hardship. My challenges so far were relatively small, but they both fit that criteria - though I haven't had the time lately to do more, being bogged down in work stuff and studying.

I will come back to this soon.

I decided to become a better programming.
To do that I have to stop relying on books and focusing on practice.
I expect to stop reading programming books altogether for a while. It should free up my reading space for more interesting stuff like history.

Hygiene is important sushis. Bathing is healthy for mind and body. Cleanliness is spiritually important. It relieves pain and stress and is super comfy. Who doesn't love a bathhouse episode? But what's the correct technique for bathing? Getting inside a warm tub and staring at the ceiling? Going to the sento with your friends and lewding random strangers before stealing the girls pantsu? We can't all afford to go to public bathouses, onsens, and hammams, many countries don't even have them anymore, but many of us have bath tubs at home. If not, you'll have to brave your local bathhouse which may be filled with pervy old men or toxic mold or both. So let's share some comfy tips for bath time.

A good bath should involve preparation of the body, scrubbing, soaping, and soaking. Okay. Here's the shitty method I threw together. Feel free to harshly attack me.

Step 1. Prepare the body. You wanna slowly expose your body to heat and gradually induce some sweating. Exactly how you should do this depends on the equipment you have available. Use the tub to generate steam. Sit in a warm room. Whatever. Just make sure you sweat.
Step 2. Massage the body. This one is tricky if you're on your own but much easier if you're at a public bath or some equivalent. Just make sure you've let your body sweat out the bad stuff beforehand.
Step 3. Exfoliation. Traditionally, a glove made from camel hair is used. These are hard to get so find a comfy substitute, nothing to harsh. Begin gently scrubbing the body. Do not peel your skin off. Be gentle.
Step 4. Get a lump of soap, preferably Nablusi or Aleppo soap (these have been hard to get due to uncomfy political reasons so use Castille soap if you can). Soap the entire body, gentely massage the stuff in.
Step 5. Get in the tub and soak for as long as you like.
Step 6. When you're done, rinse, then apply soap and rinse with warm water again. Some people say the final rinse should be cold water. Its really up to you but I prefer warm.
Step 7. Get in a comfy gown and relax in a room with moderate temperature, sit in comfort but don't wrap yourself up to let the body breathe. Let your body cool down. Take the time to enjoy some tea and snacks. Don't consume anything too cold like ice cream.

This entire process is probably wrong but whatever. I did my best with what I had. My tub will never be as good as an onsen etc. fuck it. I'm gonna go suicide for posting this by tossing the toPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I got dumped yesterday :( here's the journal entry I wrote:

I can't believe he broke up with me. It seemed to come out of nowhere and when he said the reasons it still didn't fully make sense. He said:
*You're too young, we're in different places in life
*You deserve better than to be strung along
*I want to focus on figuring my shit out/career
*It's not your fault, you've been nothing but lovely

Never mind, it does makes sense. It's just hard to accept. This isn't what I wanted at all. I saw a future together. I imagined us at our wedding day with all our cool friends. There was supposed to be a band and a mosh pit after our vows. There are anime we never finished, dates we never went on, dishes I never got to make for him. We were such a good match and I loved him with all my heart. Now what we had is gone instantly.

Picrel. Imagine getting dates with people you wanted.

I will give you my original donut steel advice.
*It is human nature to seek answers in a time of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate rather than to bow one's head and succumb. Inevitably many will be sad or get mad. But these circumstances are merely the result of a broader context; one which we can influence but not determine. Those more sensible will foster this bitterness into a sense of purpose and further rule their own fate through action and personal achievement.*

toki! sina sona e toki pona anu seme?

Toki pona is a constructed language, like Esperanto or Klingon.
But, unlike those it's absolutely tiny! If you're keen you can be fluent enough to chat in just a few days.

It's a wonderfully comfy way to communicate, and it can be great fun too.
There's a very active community, so it's easy to get practice, and there's new music, podcasts and stories coming out all the time.

The whole essence is simplicity, reducing things down to the bare necessities and getting away from all the confusion of modern life.
Kinda like this place.

Do we have any other speakers here?
Does anyone else want to learn more?

I'll be hanging around here to find out!

I guess if you have a lot of free time and enjoy the concept something like Toki Pona can be fun. For me it feels pointless to get into. I don't even really have time for the conlangs I see as better. Poor time management, maybe, or just too many interests and commitments with conlangs falling low on my list of priorities. But if you want an actual community I'd go for Esperanto. Most conlangs attract a lot of naive leftists who can be very annoying for any moderate or non-leftist to talk about world affairs with but Esperanto's community is such that I've found coreligionists and people to just have normal conversations with in the past.
Still, pardon my negative Nancy-ness, I do love conlangs in theory and smiled when I saw this thread!

Brugmansia suaveolens. They can get huge, but they don't like cold winters. Most people around here have them in large pots and bring them in the house in autumn.

Don't think this has been mentioned so far, what kinda temp do you like your beer at?
Myself I'm actually kinda partial to room temp beer. IMO chilled beer is most often to dampen off flavours from bad beer. Bad beer tastes rotten room temp, but good beer you just taste more and fuller flavours than if you have it non chilled. Okay beer is just okay, no real difference, apart from it feeling easier on the stomach to not have a bunch of cold liquid in there.

Also tried some budget Loch Lomond. It does the job fine. Sure it doesn't say Loch Lomond up front, but if you read the back label it says it's produced by the Loch Lomond group or whatever, so it's Loch Lomond to me. High Commissioner they call it. Tastes Loch-ish Lomond-ish, but without the peat influence. At 70% of the cost, alright by me.

Speaking of whisky, another query. Have you ever actually seen anybody use a flask?
I got myself one, and the time I did bring it for a special occasion the person that spotted me using it (and got to share during the night) was very appreciative of seeing one in the wild (Not just for free booze reasons). I've never actually seen one apart from that. Feels like it's a relic of the past.

>>23003
Never heard of that before, sounds interesting from what wikipedia describes.
Sadly don't think I could try to make a homemade one, we don't have pineapple ice cream here really, except for… Words become difficult here. Non-dairy popsicle pineapple outside with regular dairy-based vanilla ice cream inside, on a stick. I guess? Google translate seems to think non-dairy and dairy ice cream is the same though we have different words for them. (pic related)

I prefer my beer on ice. I don't understand why so many people have an aversion to iced beer. Beer is already mostly water anyways, it's not going to hurt if it gets a little more in it.

Also your picture is commonly known as a "creamsicle" in the US. Orange flavored coating is the most common in the US. There's also the "dreamsicle" if the inside part doesn't have a high enough cream content to legally be called "ice cream".

A guy at my workplace almost got domed today. Or not exactly at my workplace, it's a bit complicated. The company I work for owns an entire neighborhood, and my workplace is just one of many businesses in that neighborhood. Well, in our private neighborhood is a bank. So we get cash transfer trucks on cash days. Some guy, presumably high out of his mind, walks right up to the truck and starts slowly walking around it, trying to look in through the windows. The cash transfer people were about ready to blow his head off when we intervened, asking him what he was doing. Apparently, he thought the truck driver was hot and wanted to hit on her. Dude literally risked his life to try to hit on an armed security guard. Holotype specimen for the man that thinks with this dick.

I love this artist, they draw very beautiful youmus. Looking back through this thread, there are a lot of good 2hus, but I've never posted in this thread.

What keeps me going is my friends. I tend to spiral into psychosis from financial pressure, mental illness, and job stress. But my friends will host regular events that snap me back to reality. Small things, like weekly TTRPGs, random movie sessions, VRchat, holiday get-togethers on Independence Day and New Years, and just a general "wanna hang out" every once in a while. I can really say that if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have made it this far. And I do my best to keep them going as well, a lot of them have had tough times. But we stick together, and we're all still here because of it.
