One time i walked by this cafe and there was two nice ladies on the balcony and one was just about to take a picture of the other (it overlooks the ocean and is quite scenic) and i put my hand up and made peace sign and had big goofy smile and she put her phone down and pointed at me and she laughed and waved and i like to think i successfully photobombed the picture but really she probably said what a fucking baka gaijin to her friend, but it makes me happy to think the other way instead.

I know this sounds a bit silly, but…

Having a conversation with women and I successfully maintain eye contact, look physically relaxed, and at no point in the interaction do I involuntarily glance at her breasts. Every successful interaction makes me happy.

Today's sunset was very pretty. The fiery oranges melt into the milky smooth white which leads the way for the light blue cheering up lonely wanderers in the darkness ahead.

These summer nights outside always give me calm yet uncomfy thoughts about me and my purpose in this world. Since they are uncomfy I shall not talk about them so use your imagination! Do you have any comfy memories and thoughts that summer nights bring out for you instead?

There are some dreams that my mind lunges for but are too out of reach for reality. One of them is to just get a vacation from living, get somewhere where nobody knows me and just camp there in a tent. Read a bunch of books, cook small meals and aimlessly wander in the small half-empty villages and towns at night. Are there any comfy dreams you are actively trying to turn into reality?

Since you are here, this is a public reminder for members of the Cult Of Good Sleep to check their clocks, maybe it's YOUR time to join with the dark!

Good night sushirolls.

Did you know that even in research there is a mainline research track trailing behind big companies or well-known names?

Researching anything else is forbidden… at least as far as your advisers are concerned. All your special track research has to be hush hush while you slowly crank out regular mainline track papers.

Eventually, you either realize your idea and decide it's not worth sharing with your community or you move on, having failed to realize your brilliant idea.

There's no winning!

fuck the system, fuck hoes, smoke kush

I've done research on my own, separate from my university, because academia focuses on shit that's measurable

there's too much of an emphasis on LaTeX, abstracts, graphs in gnuplot or whatever, and other pseudointellectual shit to make your boring-ass research paper look smarter

but real research can transcend academia

I used to think academia was the be-all and end-all of education, but it's really not

autodidactism is better tbh famalam

post it on your website or github or something, ignore universities

It's a mixed bag. Stuff like insulin, antivirals, blood thinners, etc. is making people's lives better. But there's also problems with inadequately tested pharmaceuticals, and overprescription of opioids and opioid-like substances that may be creating long-term dependency issues.

Have you ever worked a meaningless job where the work you did didn't matter or where you just didn't have anything to do?
How did you spend your time, what did you do to make the hours pass?
Maybe some of you are looking at this post from such a workplace!

Somehow I have had 3 separate office jobs that all gave me essentially nothing to do including my current one. I have no idea how it keeps happening, it's not like I seek out this kind of job and if anything the interviews for 2 of them made them sound like I'd be pretty busy. Somehow they've all seemed pretty happy with me despite me doing nothing 90% of the time, and when I have actively asked for more to do I've mostly been shrugged off.
It's great on days when I can work from home but very boring when I'm in the office with nothing to do all day. It's also made job interviews frustrating as I have much less actual experience and knowledge than someone with my years of work should have so I need to lie and exaggerate a lot.

I remember one job would just have us all push a broom around when there was nothing to do. It was like we were the Hole Digging Club - Hole Filling Club irl. I would just listen to my ipod.

This sounds like the dream…

 No.22833

I work at a small business and due to the way we place orders for parts and materials (generally only when we're low on stock or get a large order), I sometimes end up very busy and other times can go several weeks just waiting around with nothing to do. But since it's a small shop and the owner is usually around, I feel like I have to look busy even when I'm just wasting time.

But my first job was filing paperwork after hours and since it was before I got a smartphone, I brought my old gameboy and hid in the small file room playing games. Sometimes I'd stay still for so long the motion-activated lights would turn off.
