I play CS 1.6 again. I joined the GSU clan and have mod access. I was testing and playing maps and came across this today. You can vote on maps there by typing the map names and "rtv" in chat. These are as_rising_sun and de_fastline_cz

Here's the server: 162.248.92.46:27015
Website: http://gsu.site.nfoservers.com/

It's busiest from about 18:00 to 23:00 CST, but you might see me in there at other times.

as_rising_sun just felt so cozy. Also if you play and die often, don't feel too terrible. Pretty much everyone with less than 2,000 hours in this game on an average day is going to have a high death number and a low kill number. It's pretty much he norm.

Hello sushies!

I didnt know if I should post this here or >>>/silicon/257 so, I thought I should make this a sushichan project so we can all enjoy it.
I've been working on a game that im building in Ruby on Rails. It is a mix between a TCG and classic JRPG party building and turn based combat. I have most of the rules written but I would like to get some input on what I can put in the game and what you would like to play. I havent worked on the core controller (engine) yet but I have the basic turn lay out and deck construction.
Im working on the card database right now and will move on to the static pages and deck builder next.
I am currently looking at adding in a map for a Clan style ranking system but I think it might be a bit overdone buy now. Im also on a background/story I was using FF for all the play testing but never go around for any overarching plot so anything would be good there.

Let me know what you think and Ill keep updating.

Gentlemen, I have returned.
Age brings wisdom but kills motivation. So ill simply start with some updates:
>Engine:
Going ok, I have the main loop and initialization methods currently work but he victory condition check is not working properly and Im not quite sure why. Once this section is done I will be moving it to the rails application that currently has a DB and framework with enough to speed up the testing and creation of objects by quite a lot.

>Format:

Not much of the rules have changed, Ive settled on 2 players with 3 characters each. Both players take their turn at once and the action stack is decided by the character speed value at the start of the round. Rails new Cable method will make the player connect seamless, so this shouldnt be a problem once the application is in testing.

>Story:

A (macguffin)is discovered by an imperial empire that has magnetic and bio-energetic properties. Over a 20 year span the macguffin becomes a source of immense power as its properties are expounded upon, tested and refined through several experiments. Some benign, some malicious. Massive improvements in power generation, transport and
other more mysterious advancements were made causing, in essence, a second industrial revolution. Like all revolutions, things change rapidly.
The once pastoral live enjoyed by a majority of the people were now swiftly being swept away and replaced with the new means of production and a new way of living. Under the stress of change and the pull to various utopian ideals of how to use this new power, the empire shattered in to 3 major factions now wrestling for control over the best uses of the limited material.

I've been getting pissed off about meeting alot of strangers that can't speak english or refuse to speak english in international multiplayer-focused games especially the one that requires collaborative tactics.

I guess this is why people play with friends but people like me who has no friends well… are left with strangers, and those strangers are people I've just mentioned, either can't or don't want to speak english.

I'm sure there are kinds of people who's brave enough to start talking if no one else wants to but I'm not that kind, I can only talk if everyone else talks because of my mentality.

You guys get sick of something like this right? The only way I know is that we should just… talk and for those who doesn't then we'll let them be but of course it's easier said than done.

Man… I never thought multiplayer would be so hard, I guess singleplayer games ftw.

as much as no one wants to hear it, English is becoming the global language and if you wanna play some global online game with a primarily English speaking user base then you might wanna learn the basics of English. it's the gift that keeps on giving when you want to communicate on the internet too. there's literally no downside. it's not that English speakers are demanding you learn English to accommodate them, it's that the internet is largely in English and people will get frustrated with you if you can't communicate.

I imagine a man who lives in a country and wasn't afforded the ability to learn a second language (very common if you're employed) hopping on a game to have fun. Not everyone will have that opportunity or the privilege to study a second language. If it really is an issue, perhaps games that minimize teamwork and communication would be more your wavelength, or perhaps there are methods to make your communication clear without using language. we are all human, after all!

I don't know how this conversation will turn, but remember to stay comfy.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni was kind of life-changing for me, and I don't say that lightly. It was a very rough read sometimes, because it could get a lot darker than I am used to, but that darkness was a canvas that made the most beautiful parts of the story really shine. By the end of playing it there were things I thought about differently in life. You might not have the same kind of experience, but I'd highly recommend it. It is a long-haul though that takes about 200 hours to play. It's by the same guy as Higurashi.

Get the version from umineko-project that runs on PC but uses the PS3 graphics.

I find my own feelings on Umineko articulated by Arthur Schopenhauer:

“There are two kinds of writers: those who write for the sake of the subject and those who write for the sake of writing. The former have had thoughts or experiences that seem to them worthy of communicating; the latter need money and that is why they write, for money. They think for the purpose of writing. We will recognize them by the fact that they spin out their thoughts as long as possible and also elaborate half-true, crooked, forced and vacillating thoughts, and usually favour the twilight in order to appear as something they are not, which is why their writing lacks definiteness and full clarity. […] As soon as we notice it, we should throw the book away, for time is precious. At bottom, however, an author cheats his reader as soon as he writes in order to fill up paper, because he alleges that he writes because he has something to communicate.

[…] They vacillate between striving to communicate and to conceal their thoughts. They would like to trim their thoughts in such a way that they acquire a scholarly or profound appearance, so that people will think there is much more to them than meets the eye. Accordingly they dash it off in fragments, in brief, ambiguous and paradoxical utterances which seem to signify much more than they actually say (magnificent examples of this kind are provided by Schelling's writings in natural philosophy); or they present their thoughts in a torrent of words, with the most unbearable prolixity, as if who knows what miraculous preparation might be needed to render their meaning intelligible - whereas it is quite a simple insight, or even worse a mere triviality.”

its hard to really get into. most multiplayer games with an actual fanbase fall under 3 categories:

1. games specifically meant to appeal to people and youtubers who already have a group of friends to play with, and otherwise is too involved of an experience to really get to know anyone at a reasonable pace with.

2. games that have already kind of passed their peak and are mostly dominated by a specific kind of person, making it difficult to really find anyone else (mostly normalfigs)

3. completely dead, usually the best place because the few people still playing are usually the more passionate and curious type, but still extremely difficult to find anyone in

i kinda just wanna enjoy something and meet people as i go along. its been hard trying to just enjoy single player games recently knowing that i wont make any friends playing it. it sounds silly, but my loneliness has gotten to such a point that at prolonged periods of inactivity can cause me to struggle breathing and undergo extreme stress, mostly because i am often subject to negative energy even when im not trying to socialize with anyone.
everyone needs another soul to bounce against and trying to replace it with money or fame or any other arbitrary measurement of "success" kinda just leaves you as a husk.

That's what you do though – you create a server or a social media account or a guild or whatever and you keep advertising it everywhere until you have enough people who agree with you. Yeah it's tedious and frustrating and you'll get a bunch of people who show up just to mock you, but there's not much of a better way to find people. You don't need 20 million followers. A core of somewhere around 5 to 20 people is about right. That's what a normal community is.

>>2649
That's basically what I meant by usurping an existing community.

in all seriousness though, "making a community" is difficult when the kinda thing i look for is more nebulous than just "is a fan of X" or "likes Y games", i dont even think i want to create a clique, at least out of randoms online, because it kind of creates this atmosphere where where normalfigs will still dominate regardless, like, theres small, safe amounts of normalcy, and itd be plain rude if you just rejected them for that, since everyone's a little normal, but then it starts creeping in more and more inevitably, through sheer phenomena and abundance rather than any individual person's fault, and it just creates another atmosphere that you dont really feel welcome in anymore. for example, some of the games/manga i like are notoriously lewd or spooky or both, and yet whenever i try to find a server or multiplayer game for it, the communities are usually very safe and even the ones based in series that are extremely blatant with how creatively unhinged they are, shameless creator and all, they tend to actively fear ever getting into or discussing the more non normalfig safe topics, and will even forbid it in most cases despite it being a central part of the series' appeal and writing, to the point it doesnt even feel like a fanclub and more like just another place for normals to talk about hype moments and aura or whatever
i know its mostly a matter of me just properly moderating the community i create, but, like, in spite of that, its still going to be incredibly difficult to actually pass around, especially considering how dangerous big public spaces online can be, so i think i'll need to look for better alternatives than making a discord server (i know discord is lame but its the only option that isnt dead and broken)
i could try only inviting people from imageboards but i feel like thatd only work if ive already harbored a community in an imageboard before doing so, in which i have, and attempted, and failed (especially considering despite our similarities im ultimately pretty different from the most of them)
so now i explore many different imageboards trying to find something more, (which is why i am here to begin with), but again, not Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

So far I know nothing, the best I think you can do is to just join a random multiplayer lobby and try to contain the pain toxic people has… and in my experience of playing multiplayer games, people are either limited in their languages or just silent because no one else talks.

Also, I have the same problem as you too. I still can't figure it out.

Dug around a bit from what I remembered being things:
Singleplayer:
- Shenzhen IO (ASM)
- TIS-100 (ASM)

Multiplayer:
- Hackmud
- Screeps (Multiplayer focused, but can be played alone)

Beware, MP ones are VERY not comfy according to user reviews. People who played both of these games fell victim to the fun vacuum of "script cartels" and people who had way too much industry experience caring way too much about the game. I'm still thinking about getting into Screeps just for the SP side and pseudo-JS.

The singleplayer ones are available DRM-free via GOG but the latter two are on Steam.

This is the game

The objective is program a robot and let it fight in an arena.

The interaction with the program it's relatively easy, the real difficulty is on the strategy you use to defeat your opponents!

We are thinking, with a sushi on the irc, to make a tournament or something and maybe streaming it if we get some ppl to join and made their own robots.
