Effective immediately: AI images are banned.

We have been getting a flood of low quality AI images on multiple boards that are excessively clogging several threads. We have been lenient in the past but it has gotten to be too much and nobody wants to see the recent posts flooded with AI. Sushichan is not the place for this, especially if you're going to only minimally interact with threads to post AI images.

Users can feel free to discuss this rule change in the replies to this thread but as of right now we are taking a hard stance against AI images on Sushichan.

Do you have a neat web community or chat group you'd like to invite people to? Maybe want to drop your messaging handle and strike up some conversations? Do it here.

Chat/community/personal ads are no longer allowed on the rest of the site, except maybe on /hell/.

Important Note: This doesn't mean that you can't talk about communities or chat groups. You could, for example, have a thread where you ask people about web communities they visit. You just can't open your thread with an advertisement.

One post per service please! Duplicate ads may be deleted. This especially includes discord links. To make a permanent discord link, click on instant invite, go to advanced settings, and change the expire time to never. Dead links suck. If your discord link expires, your post will be deleted and you may receive a short warning ban.
New Rule(2/21/25): To avoid spam/bots and potentially illegal content, describe your community briefly, don't just drop the link.

>I like the virtual TV network idea, though. Fake-out old timey ad breaks are a nice touch.
thanks, glad you like it. also, not all the channels are fake. seven of them are real live tv channels from around the world.

we even have a channel that is a CCTV-like setup with real security camera feeds from all over the city of Detroit (where most of our community is based)

forgive me if you already knew all that but i noticed lots of people often dont realize theres a channel guide or how to browse the other channels on the TV site lol

Ants are such amazing little explorers. They find one cool thing and then set up a trail for their friends and pretty soon there's a line of them marching through the tiniest crack around a window to get to it.

Why does FL Studio use so much complicated terminology for what is essentially "this is how you have an effect stop/start mid song"? I just recently learn its not called effect automation but enable automation. I've been noticing weird stuff like this and complicated controls in a bunch of "industry-standard" stuff like DAWs and Adobe products. I have a conspiracy theory that its to make learning programs difficult to maintain a level of prestige and sell courses or justify college kids learning them in school. Because if you think about it, thats a great way to cross sell.

Where do you find abandoned locations on the map? I've been seriously considering getting into urbanex (purchasing equipment and doing preliminary safety training), but I'm stuck on the research side of things. Are there any good databases of locations that are known to be worth exploring?

You might know the "canary in the coal mine" idiom.
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/canary_in_a_coal_mine
>the gases would kill the canary before killing the miners, thus providing a warning to exit the tunnels immediately
That's the "extreme danger", because the point where you notice something is wrong could be past the point of no return.

What constitutes safety training?
>>24021
What mines exist around me fill the mainshaft when they're finished with concrete to seal it off. I think it's a shame and needlessly restrictive/wasteful, if they are to do anything it would be cooler if they flooded it, presuming the conditions of the mine don't toxify the liquid. Then it could at least be used for scuba diving (certification required as well as backup lighting both on-person and through generator-switch if safety concerns must be appeased) and at most be used in an attempt to create a subterranean waterbody ecosystem by introducing suitable fauna in the right order. Alternatively, a more pragmatic use would be to convert them to bomb bunkers whether for people or for crucial goods, the elevator and venting infastructure already exists if the mine is manned, and having more of them can't possibly be a bad thing.

Very rarely could you deliberately flood a mine, it's not like minecraft where rocks prevent all water from entering or exiting the hole, there's usually a groundwater connection and the mine will naturally flood up to the groundwater table once the mining company stops pumping out the water. Mines (like caves) can also temporarily flood to higher levels during rainstorms which is another thing that can make them dangerous to explore.

Additionally, depending on the geology of the site, the mining may expose sulfide minerals which will quickly acidify water, and may expose heavy metals which will also readily dissolve in said acidified water. Or salt mines will be so saline that almost nothing can live in the water. They generally do not make for good aquatic habitats.

You could use the areas above the high flood line for storage or something I guess. The issue becomes maintaining the equipment for safe access.

I didn't think of the porosity going both ways, which considering the weight of water above the table, yeah, would cause recess. Although maybe there'd be a chance for intake to exceed outtake in wetter locations. Thankfully the solubility of something in water allows it to be pumped out, so maybe troglohaven could still work, since it doesn't depend on a stable water level, but the effort and time wouldn't be done for the novelty unless the soluble resource was efficiently attained that way. I imagine this would likely extend to any use, but maybe some agro-industrial use of a resevoir could carry enough incentive for a wet use to have merit. For dry use, How difficult would it be to permanently seal? If the pumping is generally done out of practacaility as opposed to neccessity I would think you could have foresight on future conversion and seal it from the start. I wonder if the pressure differential far enough down could be useful for anything. Because similarly, part of the appeal of converting it for storage/shelter use is also that it's very stable in temperature.

This isn't really a reply and more of a restatement; but given the variety of incentives of using things underground along with difficulties/expense in excavating, and that the severity of issues with doing so are contextual, even if it doesn't work in most circumstances there's enough potential incentive for repurposing to be considered, such that sealing it in a way that impedes future repurposing is still dumb even if an immediate use doesn't seem practical. Only in an area where the subsidence of the mine is an issue would it seem wise. Although, in retrospect they probably just seal the entrance most of the time, which would be boring but not worthy of the same distaste.

Also your pic reminded me of hearing about how some ant's construct their hills in ways to deal with flooding, would you by chance know of any interesting information sources related to them or other crafty bugs?

I have often thought I could use more discipline in my life, perhaps you have too. With the goal of improving discipline, I want to practice with you.

Pick something you cannot now do, and do it. Make a commitment by posting here, set a deadline, and report back after you are done, success or failure. It can be anything at all. Playing a challenging piano piece, getting outside every day, waking up in the morning, running a mile, forgoing your preferred distractions, anything.

Myself, I have trouble sitting still when I meditate. So I commit to sitting completely still for one hour, with a deadline of Wednesday evening. If I so much as move a finger I will reset the clock.

There's two kinds of discipline I am aware of - the discipline to endure a difficult situation to its end (as in sitting still for one hour) and the equally valuable daily discipline of keeping up a good habit whether you desire to do so or not. So keep in mind which kind of discipline you want to practice and go for it. Be bold and become a stronger person!

Didn't see any movie thread around so I'll make this one the one. Have you watched anything interesting sushi?
I just finished watching Underworld, I actually started it many months ago but due to watching it on TV with half an hour long announcements decided to drop it, only to pic it back up now. I'm surprised that this movie is as complex as it is since I thought it would be just a cheap action flick, there are a lot of moments that felt very satisfactory only due to implications from characters and their previous actions. The actress was also very pretty and the action sequences were decent, but I doubt the sequels are as good as the original despite having an obvious cliffhanger ending and leaving a lot of stuff in the air (what happens to the lycan covenant and Michael? Does Selene actually get to be with the vampires again or does this relationship exile her from it).
In the end, I liked this a lot. Post whatever movies you have watched.

April of last year, I was looking a bit puffy. I'm 163 cm and I was pushing 63 kg. I know 24 is a healthy BMI, but I wanted to look better. I was a year into uni and the Freshman 15 was not kind to me lol

Anyway. I got this fancy Bluetooth scale from Walmart that tracks your body fat %. That's the real number you want to look at.

>But I'm not sure how to get rid of the belly fat.

What I did was go on a mild calorie deficit, did 30 minute bodyweight workouts at home every day, and measure myself on the scale here and there. I'm now 53 kg. Not really muscular tho. More skinny lean - like a homeless crackhead, or Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver - but I view it as an improvement. Hope this helps sushi. best of luck

I turn 33 today! My life's not in the best spot, but that's been true for a while, and I feel things are finally beginning to pick up now.
I can't quite pinpoint the cause, but I've finally got a good routine down, and it doesn't take too much time like previous routines. I'm actually reaching a point in the day where it's time to send out some job applications and do some errands rather than getting bogged down in the to-dos I've planned to run beforehand. I'm very happy with my progress and new-found budding stability. It seems I have a reasonable reason to hope for the future.
Getting a full-time job. Moving out and supporting myself. Joining communities. I feel ready to attempt to really enter society now. Maybe at my next birthday, things'll be really different! I look forward to seeing what the future holds!

How strange. Was this really me, just a year ago?

Many things can happen in a year. I have left my dead-end airline job to be paid reasonably well for writing strange spells in unorthodox languages full of parentheses. I've made friends with likeminded people, that I feel that I can rely upon. I am learning things, and building things. I have something resembling a routine, and some sense of progress. If this gambit works out, then we're laying the foundation for things that might outlive us all. If not, hell, at least I'm having fun.

But not all is rosy. Our family is drifting apart, and, although this is natural and probably even rather late, I feel like I'm not nearly as bothered about it as I should be. I have lots to do, and yet there is ennui. Daily life is calm, and yet I find that I am easily irritated. I am learning, I am making an effort, and yet I feel like I will never catch up to what I should've already known. "No matter fast you run, you will never catch up to those who have been running for their whole life." But, most importantly, there is this nagging feeling, this background noise, rearing it's ugly head on the idleness between daily life, telling me that none of this is quite enough, that I am not really happy, that something in what I am doing is wrong, that there is something that I have missed.

But let's not dwell on that too much, for the time being. It is supposed to be a happy day, after all. This is one of my favorite songs, I hope you like it too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFsBYlXI3A
